Customer has 406V2 with 3.2.65. Customer has requested that once the keypad for thier alarm system begins its countdown, they would like for the countdown tones to come through speakers on all desk phones to alert anyone in building that alarm has been set. Is this possibe? I promise I don't lay awake at night making this !@%$ up.

Are you serious?
Tell the customer to check the building before leaving.

If they leave some windows open then they need to close those windows.

The phone system will not help with this.

honey, i fried the IP Office !!!

Sarcasm, it's only one of the services I offer.

create a page all group. wire up a handset next to the alarm panel. set up the D shortcode on the handset to the page group. tell them they have to read out the countdown manually. :)

fo shizzle ma nizzle.

I know what little credibility I had would be lost asking this question.

And if it then does not work well you are the one to blame.
Because of the customer being lazy you need to build stupid constructions.

This is not the way it should be.

It's not your fault they asked you for something so dumb. I would put that suggestion to them and see what they say. the ridiculous answer might clue them up to what a ridiculous question it was :)

Sadly, I doubt that.

I have always wished that my computer would be as easy to use as my telephone.
My wish has come true. I no longer know how to use my telephone.

Okay, as utterly absurd as this request is. And we all agree on that.... I'm going to take a stab at it....

Some alarm systems will call in prior to the completion of the egress cycle to check for authorization by code. Others will call at the very end.

If it's one of the systems that dials in first:

Create a user shortcode for the alarm (the alarm has to be plugged into the IPO) that redirects it to a "post" and have it say something like "alarm system armed/disarmed". BTW, you can't have it count down as the alarm will get PO'd that it can't phone home within a certain period of time. It would have to wait for the "post" WAV to complete. Then forward the call to whomever is the monitoring company.

If you want to get fancy. You could toggle a variable that would correspond to the actual alarm armed/disarmed status.

Sorry to say, if it dials afterwards or they aren't monitored.... Well.. You're toast. Sort of....

Now, most alarm systems have an arming LED or arming relay output, you may be able to attach the arming relay to an analog phone port on the IPO and "shunt" the port off-hook. Put a "hot dial" to a VM shortcode and have it post the WAV. Have it disconnect at the end.

Lastly and probably most practical, tell them it's a phone system, not an alarm system. You can in many cases hook up "daisy-chained" keypads in other locations to alert the arming process.
