Hi and Thank you everyone for all of your help so far:
Is there an application that comes with aix that I can run in a windows environment that will allow me to connect to a risc server and run aix from the pc. I already use Exceed and Xthinpro. Exceed works find but it would be great if there was an application that could be downloaded onto the pc to allow you to run aix through the window. For instance, ftp to the aix server and download a file to the pc and run the file and be connected to the server.

When you say "connect to the server" do you mean by way of an X windows session? What added functionality are you looking for that Exceed/Xthinpro doesn't provide?

None really, I just find Exceed to be a large program, and Xthinpro doesn't seem to function as well as Exceed, where I get poor command responses. I thought it would be much more convenient if it were possible to run an X window straight from aix with software included in aix rather than having to purchase a 3rd party software. The server connection I was refering to was an x window connection where I have the ability to run an x window.

Try investigando Tarantella (a commercial product), Joe something a product included by IBM in AIX's BonusPak and VNC, a free product by ATT UK.

These packages can be installed on AIX and permit graphical access to AIX desktop using a standard browser.

I hope it works...

Hi,

You should try Tiny Term emulator by Century Software, I have used this now for a while and find it easy and straightforward to use.

Hi brendangriffin!
Thank you for the reply. I have already tried Tiny Term and it seems to have problems when I run scripts, and even with the vi editor, where the program freezes and some of the ordinary commands that I would use in Exceed aixterm windows do not function.
Thank you again!
Sincerely,

If you don't need to run an x session, then you can just telnet from your DOS prompt. You can use vi and all you other normal shell functions. You just can't start an application requiring x, unless you install some additional software like exceed.

If you don't like the exceed terminal windows and setting up all the configuration stuff, then just run the "exceed" program itself. The toolbar goes to the background and you don't have to even use the session or client configurator. Just start Exceed (START - Programs - Hummingbird - Exceed - Exceed) I just place the exceed icon on my desktop. Once Exceed is running, then open you DOS prompt window and telnet to the host. Once in your login shell, you can export your display back to your PC's IP address (xhost + is default on your PC). To test and make sure you have x capability, enter "xclock" at the prompt. An xclock window will pop up (or it may just appear on your windows toolbar).

Try that.

look at vnc (free from bull) can to X via java through your browser on you windows (or other) machine
