Hi all,

I'm a beginner with AIX, but just got one box under my administration, and I'll have to do two things:

1. backup the whole OS to a file/directory (via NFS)
2. install a bff package

How do I do that? Mind you, the tapes or CD/DVD are out of the question.

How does one install bff's? Via smit install_latest or installp??

Thanx in advance!

Hi,
1. You can do mksysb, on your NFS mounted NIM server,Assuming you have nim server.
mksysb -i -X -p -e /"Monuted directory"

2. Yes smitty update_all , Point to directory where you have .bff ( repository)

Khalid,

I think once we have mksysb on NIM , We can make it as mksysb resourse & make SPOT out of it & than boot of it as NIM client ..?

neuralnode has only one box, so NIM is out of the question.

Depending on AIX version and disks, you could look at alt_disk or multibos.
