I have a AIX 5.1 server and an EMC CX600 disk Array. I am using powerpath to clone my disks. I can mount the clones on a backup server once, but if I synchronise the disk again and try and mount them on the backup server a second time it fails. I have tried redefine, recreate, import the VG but nothing works....any ideas?????

How are you using powerpath to clone your disks? PowerPath is for Path Failover and I/O balancing. The LUN that is being used by the server is the same LUN down both SP ports so there is no clone.

Explain in detail how you are doing this?

Sorry I'm new to this and haven't got the terminology yet.

I have fractured a clone disk and I am trying to mount this clone on a backup box. The first I run recreatevg -y testvg hdisk* this works fine, I then export the vg and sysnchronise it on the EMC. When I fracture the clone a second time and try and remount on my backup back I get errors like this ::recreatevg -p -y testvg hdisk2
0516-062 lqueryvg: Unable to read or write logical volume manager
record. PV may be permanently corrupted. Run diagnostics

or
importvg -L testvg hdisk2
0516-306 getlvodm: Unable to find volume group testvg in the Device
Configuration Database.

Does this help ?

You only need to do an importvg, there is no need to recreate it.

importvg -y <vgname>
varyonvg <vgname>
mount

To export:

umount <filesystems on vg>
varyoffvg <vgname>
exportvg <vgname>

Then resync

I have got a lot further with this issue. There were a few things to be changed on the EMC. The issue I am having now is. I have 2 VG's to fracture and mount on a backup server. One works fine and I can mount it no problem. The second gives errors when I varyonvg and fails to mount. If I do a lsvg -l ont this VG I can see that the jfslogs for this VG are listed as jfs. I can't mount the filesystems without the jfslogs. Has anyone ever seen this before. I don't know if there is an issue on the EMC disk configuration or on my backup node. Really don't know where to start looking.....
