We reboot our server every weekend using shutdown -r. For the last 2 weekends, we have come in on Monday morning to find that the server shut down, but did not reboot successfully. The console has all kinds of blinking lights and gibberish on it. At this point, we reboot it manually and it works fine.

Any ideas how to fix this?

Thanks,
Natalie

You may have processes who wasn't stopped at the reboot time

We had a problem like this on an S80. As it turned out, we had an SPCN cable pinched in between two panels of the raised flooring...who knows how that happened??? Anyway, once the cable was replace, things have been working fine.

You don't mention the model of server, but there should be an LED code on the front panel (if it is a deskside model like an F50 or 6M1, etc.), that you can use to diagnose the problem.

It's a p660, model 6H1.

Where do I find the console log?

Are you sure the server actually shutdown? What I mean by this is we had an issue with our servers (Older models S7A's and H70's) that would not reboot properly unless we were issuing 'shutdown -Fr' on the console.

At first, it looked like the servers rebooted but didn't come up all the way. After closer examination, the server never came down all the way. Once we issued the command on the command line, it finished the reboot and came up clean.

Maybe this is happening in your situation too??

Chuck

Well, when I run errpt -a, there is a message for ERRDAEMON going down and all of the databases shut down according to the db log.

But are you sure it came down completely? On our systems, we could do an uptime and show that the system had not rebooted recently.

Regards,
Chuck
