Gentleman,

I'm in the process of adding extra EMC storage to an IBM S80 server. The storage folks are asking if there is a certain host channel on the server that the new storage needs to be assigned to. Can someone point out the commands that I would use to determine the host channels that are currently in use by the SAN storage devices?

Here is a sample of my lsdev -Cc disk command:

hdisk39 Available 20-58-00-15,1 EMC Symmetrix SCSI Raid1
hdisk40 Available 20-58-00-15,2 EMC Symmetrix SCSI Raid1
hdisk41 Available 30-60-00-0,0 EMC Symmetrix SCSI Raid1
hdisk42 Available 30-60-00-0,1 EMC Symmetrix SCSI Raid1

Thanks,

host channel or host bus adapater?

What does:
lsdev -Cc adapter give you?

The SAN folks just need, your adapter WWN (World Wide Name/Address)

Mag0007, They are asking for host channel. Specifically, is there a certain host channel that the new storage must be assined to. I would assume that they would already have this servers WWN already since I already have storage on EMC. Am I wrong with this assumption?

Thank you.

macvz: Yes, you are correct, they need your WWN of adapter(s) to assign space. I am not too sure what a Host Channel is...wait for someone to answer this....

Sorry, I could not be much of help

Mag0007, I appreciate the time you spent to reply. Thanks.
