I'm trying to upgrade AIX from 4.3.3.0.0 to 4.3.3.10.0 BUT I cant find where to download the software from the IBM site. Presumably you can. Or do you have to sift thru numerous APARS?
Maybe I'm just being thick, but I've been looking all day and I'm bored of it now.

When I upgrade I ring IBM and they send me the upgrade media -- do you have a support agreement with them? Mike

Email welcome if you're in a hurry or something -- but post in tek-tips as well please, and I will post my reply here as well.

basically, it is important to note that you have direct connection to IBM or its business partner for further support just in case it didn't work out as what you planned it to be.

you can download from the Internet or IBM site but you're on your own.

IBM provides downloads almost for fixes only not for version releases.

maybe im wrong.

Graeme,

Well I am bit confused by your question - AIX upgrades are coducted in the form of maintenance levels - to check you current maintenance level:

instfix -i |grep ML

You order ML levels from IBM 4.3.3.10.0 is not an ML level but a fileset level i.e. in ML-05 most fileset updates are up to the 4.3.3.25 level.

I suspect what you want it is ML-06 which is the latest ML.

I hope that makes things clearer??? If you want to download the ML levels it will take you until the middle of next week, order these from IBM if you cannot I may be able to send you ML-05 for a small fee (smile)...

Cheers

For upgrade tapes to the "latest and greatest" within your level, (i.e. from 4.1.4 to 4.1.5 ) you can call IBM directly at 1-800-225-5249, If you have an AIX Software Support Contract...you can give them your customer number, system serial number and media type and they will order it for you. There may be a media charge for these refresh orders.

If you try to go from version 3.2.5 or 4.1 to 4.2 or 4.3 , you will need to contact your sales person for this upgrade. If you are updating from prior to 3.2.5, please see the article on Migrating AIX Software Prior to 3.2.5
What you asked was from 4.3.3.0 to 4.3.3.10 which Is not the latest and greatest
but indeed a maintenance level.... instfix -ik 4330-01_AIX_ML
instfix -ik 4330-02_AIX_ML etc.........

For PTF patches on the RS/6000 , you can down load them directly using FixDist from the web site:

Select Maintenance Level Fixes............

Full Instructions are there......
Some Words of Caution - some of the maintenance levels require earlier levels
to be installed before apply new. When we downloaded the fixes for AIX 4.3.3.06
we had missing reqs from the 433.05. Make sure you have a mksysb...and of
course the install is a smitty update_all if you are staying within your level...4.3.3.0 to 4.3.3.10... Maintenance level 4.3.3.0.10 is not maintenance level 6...that will take you to 4.3.3.25 on some filesets..........you need to decide if you want the latest and greatest or just a few up..........
Good luck #-)

Thanks for all your help. I got it all sorted out in the end. I managed to remote mount ML06 from our London office so I didn't even have to wait for the post. Aix is now at 4.3.3.25 and I even got the Java compiler working. Hurrah!
