If the motherboard lists the slot as AGP 4x, then you can use any video card up to AGP 4x speed and not worry about the notching.
AGP 4x is a term applied to slots that will support AGP 1x, 2x, and 4x cards.
In contrast, sometimes you will find a motherboard with the slot listed like AGP 1.5v. Such a motherboard then will only support 1.5v cards, which happens to be AGP 2x cards. I think AGP 1x cards are 3.3v, but don't quote me on that. And I certainly don't know the voltage on AGP 4x cards off hand.
