How old is everyone in here that has passed the CCNA? I'm fresh out of college and I want to know if I'm in this alone or not. I took the CCNA once and got a 801 and I'm hoping to increase it up those 48 points (any idea how many questions that is by the way?) I mostly need to review a simulator quesiton that had to do with dynamic NAT and a redistribution question as far as AS's and EIGRP and IGRP (which I don't remember seeing a licking of AS's mentioned in the book. Good thing I was also taking an NP course.

I'm an old bugger, passed my CCNA back in 2000 at the ripe old age of 30. Now doing CCNP - just passed BSCI last week.

I see, I always pondered the age thing b/c I took classes with guys in their 40's and what not and was the only 22 year old. Hopefully I'll be able to pass it this next time around after I study up on some of the topics that I don't do every day in my work study like Frame Relay and the others mentioned in my previous post.

I earned my CCNA in March at 30, but I've heard of folks as young as 17 taking the tests. As far as AS numbers, what you really need to know about them is how they are assigned (public and private) and when you need them. Oh and that 48 points could be as few as 1-2 questions if the simulation is one of them.

maturus,

In the last 7 years I have had students from 18 to 73 that have gone through the Cisco Network Academy and then went on to pass the CCNA, most in the 1st attempt.

I think a lot of success with the Academy students is that they do tons of hands on labs on real Cisco routers. Much easier to understand the concepts when you can see them in action on a real network.

Many of them have network labs at home with several routers, switches and PCs, it is amazing how much you learn when you have to setup NAT on your home network.

If you do not have access to Cisco routers and switches check the past posts - one of the members has FREE online access to a stack of Cisco routers. You can also rent time online - you can find good prices in Ebay for online access time.

You should also look into the sim by Cisco Press/Boson - it is one of the best sims out there.

As for me I am 45 and have been working with computers for about 20 years.

I am 24 and will be taking the test (after a 5 day boot camp) in a few weeks. I've been studying the Sybex book and doing the labs on a simulator. I also have two 2500s and a 2950 I borrowed from work. I've found the physical hardware is good for familiarizing yourself with the ports and doing a few real life labs, but I spend most of my time on the simulator. The nice thing about the real equipment is that you can actually see the labs work with real traffic. But the simulator is much more convenient.

I am hopeful that I'll pass on my first try, but I'm not betting the farm on it.

I am 24 and I took the test one time and I messed up on the access-list and the Nat sim. Better have the hands on like I do know I will take it in 3 weeks.

thanks for all the replies, I have the simulator that came with the CCNA press library (I think that is the one CiscoGuy33 was referring to) and I will get cracking on it as soon as I finish moving back into my house for the summer. I was wondering how much an official Cisco Academy CCNA class cost though.

Global Knowledge has it for $3000, I think. That is for the boot camp. I am going to one done by Academy Florida that is $2000 ( Fortunately my company is footing the bill. I was originally signed up at GK, but they cancelled my class two weeks before it started, twice.

i got my ccna in april, i was 24 at the time.
i took a bootcamp course from marketbridge.. local company in ottawa.. it was $1500

I took a 2-yr course at my highschool and attempted my CCNA at 16yrs old. I got somewhere in the high 700's. I'm now 18 and much more confident. going to take the 2-part exam(s) this time.
