Recently my backups have been failing (I get a failed message but it seems to have backed up all data). The server backs up server A onto dds and server B onto dlt.

Ive noticed that in the log it says that "agent accelerator not present". I've gone to the help menu in backup exec and chosen about backup exec. there are two options in there - 1 for the actual product and the other for the agent accelerator. Does anyone have any idea why I therefore get that agent accelerator message?

cheers.

I'm not familiar with Agent Accelerator, but it might be because you only have one license for it and are backing up two servers. If it's another name for the Remote Agent, you need one Agent per remote server.

But it used to back up fine with both servers. I cannot think of anything that has changed. Now both backups get the failed message.

Have you couble-checked that the Agent Accelerator service and all Backup Exec services are started?

If the services are all started, here are some additional suggestions:

Stop and restart all Backup Exec services.
Reboot the servers, including the backup server.
Reinstall the Agent Accelerator.

Backup exec gives you 90 day eval for all functions and agents. Agent Accelerator is the remote agent. you'll need a license for the media server and a license for any target(remote) servers you plan on backing up. Installed on the media server.
