Hello Experts,
I installed Cr 8.5 and HELP files are not available. I found instructions from Business Object's site as how to install Help files. At one point the instructions says that in Windows Registry:
Expand Registry Key: HKey_Local_Machine|Software|Seagate|Crystal Reports|Help

The registry didn't create any Help subkey. I tried to create one but do not know as what other entries it should have.

Can some one send me the exact values and subkey items that exist under : HKey_Local_Machine|Software|Seagate|Crystal Reports|Help

Thank you for your help.

A common nuisance:

Open the Control Panel, select add remove programs and expand the Help for CR to ensure that the HELP was installed (make sure that it says entire feature installed to local hard drive), often times it is not.

If that fails, then follow the registry settings adjustment, I always get it working.

Hello,
Thank you for posting the clarification of my concerns.
I tried installing help by going through Control Panal and Checking for the 'Entire contents on Local Hard Drive'
But Crystal Reports failed to install that. I used the onother described way to resolve it by going in Windows Registry.

But when I go into Regiistry, it did not even created a subkey named 'HELP'

If you have the values and the item names under 'Help' subkey in REgistry, I can create this subkey with the similar values and probably it will then work.

Thank you very much..

What does " tried installing help by going through Control Panal and Checking for the 'Entire contents on Local Hard Drive'
But Crystal Reports failed to install that." mean?

Did it give you an error?

Does it show that it's not installed afterwards?

Try posting specifics, I understand that you're frustrated, but stating failed is too broad.

If it failed to install it, thn reinstall the help.

Then use the whitepaper (I assume this what you mean by BO instructions) to correct the registry.

Again, please be specific if something doesn't work:

What did you try?

Were there errors?

The BO instructions are fairly clear.

First - reinstall help files as described below, this will then create the correct registry entries. You may need to change the "Format" entry from 2 to 3 or vice-versa, as per instructions.

To install Help Files
1. In the Control Panel, click the 'Add/Remove Programs' icon.
2. Select 'Crystal Reports' from the list of installed programs.
3. In Windows 2000/XP, click the 'Change' button. In Windows 9x/ME, click the 'Add/Remove' button. The 'Crystal Reports Setup' dialog box appears.
4. Click the 'Add/Remove' button.
5. In the 'Select Features' box, expand 'Crystal Reports Programs', and then expand 'Help'.
6. Click 'Compiled HTML Format (*.chm)' and then click 'Entire feature will be unavailable'.
7. Click 'HTML' and then click 'Entire feature will be unavailable'.
8. In the Crystal Report Setup dialog box, click Next > Next > Finish.
9. Repeat steps 2 through 5.
10. Click 'Compiled HTML Format (*.chm)' and then click 'Entire Feature will be installed on local hard drive'.
11. Click 'Next'.
12. Click 'Next' again to run the installation.

Now check the registry.

1. From the 'Start' menu, select 'Run'.
2. Type "regedit" in the 'Run' dialog box.
3. Expand this registry sub key:

HKey_Local_Machine | Software | Seagate Software | Crystal Reports | Help

4. Locate the subkey that is named after your respective language code. For example, for English, the subkey is named 'En' and for French, the subkey is named 'Fr'.
5. If the value for the subkey in step 4 is set to

• C:\Program Files\Seagate Software\Crystal Reports\Help\<your language code>, then set the value for the 'Format' subkey to "0x00000002 (2)".

- OR -

• C:\Program Files\Seagate Software\Crystal Reports\Help\<your language code>\HTML, then set the value for the 'Format' subkey to "0x00000003 (3)".

6. Exit the Registry Editor.

The Online Help is now available from either the Help menu or the F1 key.

aus0137 is quoting the whitepaper fairly well, however many of the steps are generally not required.

If the help files don't show as installed, it's probably because they just went with the default, which sometimes will NOT install them, use the add Remove as I previously stated for the Help files in particular, NOT the whole install.

Then you may have to make the usual registry change as indicated.
