Any of you ran into problems with affinity errors in Cognos 8MR2? Also, have any of you come accross performance issues? Some of my reports are going from Analysis Studio to Report Studio and they're taking quite a long time to display.

Cognos gave me a tarball and that seems to have taken away the affinity error. Now we're dealing with performance. Any of you ran into the same issues?

JP

What is a "tarball"? We have had some affinity errors and performance issues with MR1. We are in the process of getting to MR2, but is a slow process here (gov't). We did make some changes to the application (Report Studio reports) that has helped the affinity errors, although I don't know specifically what was changed. We've been working with Cognos on performance as well. I don't see the performance being horrible, but it isn't great either so far... and we have more applications (reports, Metric Mgr, Event Studio) coming, bringing more users and use. So we are concerned

Derdor,

Its good to know that you're gov't. I'm also in gov't. A tarball is simply a tar filed. The tar utility is similar to winzip in Windows. The tar is the Winzip version on Unix environments. I'm currently running it on Windows 2003 in Active Directory in adomain environment.

So, performance is not good and we've been in test mode for quite a while now. So you're experiencing affinity and performance issues as well right?

JP

JP,
Yes, we were running into some affinity errors, however the developers made some changes to the reports (I don't know exactly what) that seemed to eliminate the errors. Performance is so-so at best and sometimes worse than others. We're still on MR1 though. We are running Cognos on Solaris, for live and pre-live/test environments. We do have a Windows Dev environment, which performance seems to be a little better on. Cognos is pushing MR2 to fix a whole bunch of stuff including performance, but we're skeptical. We are also planning on changing a few parameter settings based on Cognos' recommendations to help performance. I have been a long time Cognos user/developer/admin in other environments and pre Version 8, with great success and a big fan of Cognos... this environment and 8 has been a bit of a challenge.

Derdor,

Absolutely. I've been doing lots and lots of installations, configurations, training, Customer support, Developers support , Performance tuning, etc....... it goes on and on....

However, Cognos 8 MR2 is not yet completely rid of bugs. Performance suffers when people develop Analysis Studio and then drill down to Report Studio reports (one of the new features of C8).

We're actually working with Cognos trying many different thigns. I've actually also done database analysis and Network analysis in troubleshooting this performance issues.

My goal in this list was to find out how many people are running C8 and are having issues with it? Anyway, at least we now know that we both work with the Goverment.
;-)
hehe.
