Hello!
We are using Networker version 7.3.

I am going to implement the following backup scheme:

1) Do daily backups of clients and keep data for two weeks.
Full on saturday and incremental on other days.
2) Take FULL backups once a month and keep them for 1 year.

In order to archieve 2) and do NOT want to make another
backup from clients (once a month with retention=1 year) but I want to utilize data already present on my storage nodes which was taken in step 1).

How can I archieve this?

Thanks in advance!

You could just change the retention policy of the last backup taken every month using "nsrmm -e 1-year -S ssid/cloneid".
You could perhaps have a AT/crontab job that runs the last sunday of every month. Use mminfo to list the ssid´s/cloneid´s that are level full and newer then 2-days-ago and then run nsrmm.

Cheers!
Maverick

Thanks for your reply!

Are there any other solutions (probably utilizing
staging, cloning or archiving facilities) to do this
automatically by EBS software?

BTW, it would be nice to move these full backups to another pool.

Actually, what you might want to try is save set consolidation, a feature very rarely used. Please see the Admin Guide for further information.

Using consolidation feature will result in a level 1 backup to be performed.

Is there any chance to relocate the existent FULL backup
to another pull without any requests to client machines?

Thanks!

Thanks for your help!

But could your please reread the whole thread?
As far as I understand, staging does not change retention policy for save sets.

But I need to set up two pools:
first with retention for 2 weeks with daily backups;
second with retention for 1 year with FULL backups taken monthly.

And I want to populate second pool without access to clients machines. The data should be taken from the first pool.

Probably I am missing something.

Thanks again!

If you only want to keep one of your saturday fulls for longer, 7.3 is perfect. As you now can assign a policy to a pool, simply clone these save sets to such pool.

If you want to create a new mothly full from your existing backups, this will not work. As you said correctly, you must run at least a level 1 backup if you use consolidation.
