Hi All ,

Was hoping someone could give some advice on a new CPU fan & heatsink

I have a 540J (3.2) P4 , with the stock cooler , and intake at the front of the case , exhaust at the back , and a two in the power supply... , The CPU temp is at about 52C at idle, although the heat is not really the issue , I find the stock cooler when I put load on the sys ie; 3D GFX , HDD scans , multiple processes , the fan starts to whine like a squealing pig (The fan speed goes from approx 2800RPM to 5500 RPM) , and the temp usually goes to about 72C under heavy load....

From my local computer store , They have a couple of different ones from Zalman and Coolermaster , any specific recommendations ?

Thanks!

Brent B

Although it hasn't quite got the Kudos of a Swiftech or Thermaltake I really rate this cooler.
Quite and very cool, I gaurantee at least an 8 degree drop in temps with this baby.

BrentyB,

I do not disagree the the CoolerMaster is a fine HS and very high tech just note that at 795.3g it is close to the weight limit allowed by INTEL.

What this means is that if you plan on moving this computer you need to be careful not to stress it's installation or you might remove it for transport and re-install.

If you are interested the following links are for a somewhat lighter HS/fan combo. I would still remain careful about transporting it.

Zalman CNPS7700-AlCu 600g

or the following if there is a clearance on your mobo

CNPS7000B-AlCu 438g

Hope you find that this gives you some options.

As rvnguy noted, the Zalman CNPS7700 is a huge 136 mm diameter. It would not fit my case due to not enough clearance between it and the PSU.

Thanks for the helpful links guys....

I'm gonna try the Zalman and see if it will fit , my buddies own the store I buy from so returning it won't be a problem...

Thanks for pointing out the weight difference RVNguy , good point....
