Hi, I am wanting to do home training/study on Mitel ICP as we have a Mitel system at work that I became the support person for and so just happened upon being able to buy a bare metal 3300CXi unit for setting up a homelab.

It has no hard-disk/s or software and no iButton.

I have picked up a few handsets already (5215, 5212 etc) and would appreciate some advice and/or pointers to information on the best way forward with setting up a simple home lab for self-learning, with aim for certification. Obviously one cannot play around with the live production system at work - it is a three 3300MXe system setup for resilience and using Enterprise and Operations Manager, but I want to learn the fundamentals and be able to play around on a simple version at home..

Thanks and regards

Cameron

1. Get an ibutton
2. Get a HD
3. Check RAM (needs to be 512Mb)
4. If only 256Mb buy new 512Mb RAM Module)
3. Get a software base pack (suggest SMB base pack for CXi)

Then we can talk simple setup :)

Progress so far: Had a look inside the CXi and note that the SO-DIMM is 256MB not 512MB.

Regarding HDD's, the MXe's at work each have a RAID card with two 80GB HDD's, but wondering whether one 20GB will be enough for a base level CXi?
(As I have one of those lying around! There is space for a second IDE HDD in the CXi too, but assuming that is for an add-on processor card of some sort)

Not sure yet how to go about getting an iButton and 'software base pack', but will likely take a month to get the RAM delivered so aren't in great rush and will be looking for basic manuals/documentation to get started on in the meantime.

thanks!

Cameron

You would need to go through a Mitel dealer to get a new ibutton. Even with the ibutton you would need a license account setup with the AMC ( Licensing center ). Not sure you want to fork out that kind of money just for training.
Also 20 Gig will not be enough for the new software.

I'd tell you a UDP joke but I'm afraid you won't get it. TCP jokes are the best because you always get them.

@CameronTOz to give you an idea of costs, an iButton + SMB base pack will cost £1780 + VAT RRP here in the UK.

512MB SO-DIMM arrived and installed in place of the default 256MB SO-DIMM.

Pricing for an iButton ~$400 and ~$1200 for "MCD s/w" (not yet specified what exactly that entails. Query sent).

The ibutton gives you a hardware ID to assign licenses to. You system now is registered to you. You still may have to buy software or licenses.

I'd tell you a UDP joke but I'm afraid you won't get it. TCP jokes are the best because you always get them.
