Advertised programs not available

I have created a package for a security update that I set the user could run and if not run within 14 days it would install. When I look in advertised programs on the client it is not available, all that is there is the security update inventory tool (expedited). If I look in the adverised programs for that system in the SMS console I see the patch advertised as well as the update inventory tool. How can the client run the program if it's not available? The ad status shows 0 for all activity, no starts, no failures, the only messages were for the creation of the advertisement. Should the expedited inventory tool be available or the regular inventory tool?

Expedited inventory tool is better to use because is forces the client to report what patches are installed/needed to the SMS site server.

I suspect that there reason you can't manually run the advertisement is because of a setting in the Advertisement is not set up properly.


Check this...

In the advertisement, click the SCHEDULE tab. Look for the "Allow users to run the program independently of assignments" check mark....make sure this is checked.

One this is checked, you should be able to go to the client and manually run the advertisement.
