Can you all please tell me the advantages of upgrading to 4.5 on our Option 81. We are having a hard time finding documentation from Nortel. Does anyone have any information on the 4.5 upgrade? Thank You in advance.
4.5 is two releases behind the current release. 5.5 is the latest release out now. Did you mean to say 5.5 or did you purchase a 4.5 upgrade a while back but just didn't implement it?
It would all depend on cost and if your current system is missing something you need. I'm sure the vendor will support whatever release you're at if they want to keep you as an account. However, if you have some unique applications that few other customers have, you may need Nortel to write patches - in that case, I'd want the latest release.
That's what I was saying to myself. You can't choose what release you want. In configurator they are upgrading to Succession 5.5. There isn't even an option to go to 4.5.
We have about 30 sites running 4.00T and they are running just fine. If you want advantages or disadvantages I don't see any.
Are you looking at going IP? What is the reasoning for upgrading?
4.0 is currently in a sustained status per the current compatability matrix and thus still receiving support. Next step is MD which still has support but no new patches are developed. EOL is when support ends totally. That is a few years off.
6.0 is a feature enhancement release not a total redesign.
If you have not already purchased 4.5 you will have to upgrade to the currently available GA release which is currently at release 5.5. You have no other options.
As far as advantages there are several feature advantages and new IP phone set support. That is if those features are needed or used.
Remember that when it comes to upgrading a Nortel product you can pay a little at a time to keep up or you can pay a lot later to catch up.
I am sending this thread to "the powers to be". Then if 4.5 is probably not the best way to go, then what is the most cost efficient without doing the entire magilla? THANK YOU,
It's not that 4.5 isn't the best way to go; it's that it can't go.
What type of processors are in your 81c? Depending on your processor type, you may be able to go to 5.5 without replacing hardware. If you are still on Motorola processors then you will have to replace your card cages and processors.
