Helo guy's,
Just modifying my huuuuuugggggeeeee clipper program and adding code to use the advantage client server lib. Work great and it's faster than before. Now here's the questions. Is there someone who had the advantage client server (Nt Server, ipx/spx protocol) installed and working with at least 15 stations, and database containing 10 tp 50k records ?? Problems ??? ADvise before i pay 2000$ for the package ?? please

AFAIK, ADS is the only 'real' C/S datadriver for Clipper. It's also not limited to Clipper, but also has ODBC drivers and other language native libs.
If you have a prob. the just e-mail them, support is just fine. (even pre-sales!)

We have been ADS users for some time now on Netware and 2000. We have xBase databases in excess if 20 million (and one of nearly 100 million) on ADS and it handles it fine. Granted, it can't rip thru data like MS SQL but it's reliable. We have experimented with IP versus IPX and I am of the opinion that IPX just seems to perform better despite what we're told.

The ADS StreamlineSQL language is nice so you can utilize standard SQL syntax in case you later convert to a SQL back-end.

jgill442,

About the performance of IPX over IP, your' right, the IPX protocol is faster than IP, but on current 100 Mbit networks most people won't notice, and they need IP anyway, so IP is endorsed. As IPX isn't routable that's a sort-of good reason it's use is discouraged. And then ofcourse it's not 'invented' by M$ but by Novell, so it has always been kind of ignored by MS :-(
Bottomline: IPX is faster, and in your, probably heavy use, will give better performance.
Thanks for your 'war-story' on this subject!

Hi
MS has a package called "Service for Netware". V4 for NT, v5 for 2K - costs about 140 US$. It provides the IPX protocol for the MS servers, and lets you use both IP & IPX. It can also create dummy novell print queues on the MS server so that any code using Nantucket toolbox Novell printing functions will work. I use Services for Netware 5 and Novell client software, ADS works really well. I wouldn't go back to IP.

Have multiple sites across the country using ADS in lots of different configurations - including the one you mention. Works very well, very reliable. Well worth the money.
