subject explains it all. We have a document with categories and attributes applied to it. When we issue an advanced search for a specific attribute we get no results. I suspect it has something to do with the index, but don't know where to start. I dread working with OT support on these types of issues. Anyone have any ideas?

well I shall try to help but anything with livelink serach has to be done methodically. For eg your serach working etc.
Basically the data flow should not have any errors.
Now basically note the dataid of the document, and change something on it like adding a version or something likeit.Observe the dataflow,in a few seconds all the pools should be empty and that means the index has been updated. Now do your category serach.still no results,go the serach manager and see if the attribute display name you are looking for shows up there.click all the four check boxes and again search.if these are not shgowing up only OT support acn help you decipher this.maybe you are missing a critical patch, maybe your company anti virus things are locking the index files and livelink is giving up.I generally do everything ot says on thir search best practices document and it generally works.

also one thing I forgot to say is your advanced query could be sending the wrong sysntax.if you have additional attributes on the search screen and they are all null livelink will evaluate them like wise and it may not get results.I will give an example.I have categoryTest with two attributes color and size.I put a document and put balack in the color. In your advanced search screen you get the category the two attributes show up.you type 'black' in the color and leave null in the other sise. The query is now saying give me all objects that have catattrib:color="black" and catattrib:size="Not defined".Perhaps what you should in that case is just remove the size in the query to say, give me all objects that has catattrib:color="black".Also if you use LQL in a complex query you can really know if the indexing is correct. What I am getting at is the livelink advanced search query is very efficient but the way to do it is more than optimun.
Good Luck

Don't discuss around the problem or workarounds, but look at the main problem.

There were issues with certain modules, for instance Attribute Extensions. Are you using that by any chance?

Contact Open Text and ask them to look into your problem.
