I have searched high and wide on the net for a straight answer to this question.

I sell DSL and ADSL modems and routers in the store I work in, but although I know a fair bit about the technicalities of the connection process and that ADSL is a member of the DSL family and all that, the question I really need to answer is this:

If a customer with an ADSL connection tries to use a DSL modem or a DSL router on that connection, will the device operate as ADSL? From what I have read so far on the net I am guessing that it would but I would hate to say this to a customer without being a hundred percent sure.

It is quite possible that this is a daft question, so feel free to laugh as you think of a response :

Thanks in adcance.

Chris

ADSL is the cheapest form of DSL, HDSL and SDSL are both more expensive, if your store is a typical consumer level shop the modems may all be ADSL and just say DSL, if it is a provider to large companies IT shops I could be wrong.

I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.

Thank you both very much. I would love to say that you have confirmed what I thought, but I would need to have had an idea at all to say that. :)

Yes, Jimbo, it is a typical consumer-level store so I guess we are just servicing ADSL lines.

Thanks Matt - everytime I learn something new I realise that there is so much else out there that I don't know.

Cheers.
