After realizing that CA stopped supporting Arcserve 2000 just after we bought it, we got an upgrade to Arcserve v9. Trying a backup always fails with error:

3719 Unable to write to media. (MEDIA=media_name, EC=media_error_code)

I then checked the EventViewer and see:

The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Scsi\adpu160m1.

I have already applied the 6.0.6 BIOS flash BIOS flash via floppy. I've also downloaded the latest Adaptec 29160LP driver and upgraded that too.

It would be just peachy to finally get this backup stuff working. Any help or direction? I am at a loss!

Thanks

Patrick

Hello,

we have the same problem but still firmware 6.04. Where can we get the newest firmware? Can you please send it via email (mages@distelhaeuser.de)? Thanks.

Concerning your problem, does the ADR format the tape? In our case it does, so I think you have a problem with your controller.

Hello
I've had the same problems you've had with my ADR2.120 drive. I have managed to get 2 of them working with CA's Arcservit 2000 software. I struggled with the same errors and even got it to format the tapes but wouldn't write to them. I updated my firmware to 6.06 and it fixed allot of problems I had. Also, I went to CA's site & applied some patches. For Arcserervit 2000 they had a SP4 and I think that fixed most of my stuff. Afterwards, I also had to apply a few patches listed for a few problems I encountered afterwords (job staying active after lockup and reboot, and most important a patch QO27941.caz which was for Arcserve can not recognize new inserted media - fixes your problem). Their patches are a bit tricky and have to be launched with their unzip utility (in dos window) you can download with it. Then you have to insert files you finally got unzipped to specific places. I'm up and running great. Also, with Arcserveit you have to run the wizard for Device Configuration so arcserve sees the drive, a MUST DO! Any questions rodlaing@sunflower Also, the Echo software is being supported and improved by 1Safe at for a fee of only $65. It works great and also works with CD burners, DVD burners, etc. Think about that a bit. Ability to schedule backups on a dvd burner!! It goes across networked drives but won't backup open files. Way too much knowledge for a homebuilder in Kansas LOL!
