Can someone tell me if the device Onstream SC50 scsi support hardware compression because i only can backup 25 gig on my ADR50 gig cartridges and CA Arcserve 9 software tells me me "compression not avalaible for this device" ??

The only onstream drives that support hardware compression are ADR30, ADR50, and ADR50e. SC30, SC30e and SC50 don't support hardware compression.

I have a Onstream ADR 50gig tape drive, model SC-50 (written on a sticker inside the front door)

but it is writte on my backup drive on the front panel:
ADR 50 !

but me driver says Onstream SC-50 scsi internal.

is it possible the bad firmware would have been loaded onto ?

How can i know it is a ADR50 ?

ADR stands for Advanced Digital Recorder, think of this sort of like CD meaning compact disc. All the Onstream drives are ADR drives, however, their are different models within this category. They all use ADR tapes, so they all have ADR written on the front, however, only drives with the MODEL ADR30/50 will support hardware compression, whereas the DI/DP/FW/USB/SC30 and SC50 do not. Also, all the ADR2 series drives do not support hardware compression either. So basically, just like a CD-Rom says CD on it, all of onstream's drives say ADR on the front of it, but this doesn't necessarily mean the model is ADR30 or 50. If it says ADR50 on the front, it's basically saying it can read ADR30 tapes and ADR50 tapes. It's inside the drive door that the model number is.

Thanks,
Greg
