I have Adobe premiere 6.5 and I am working on a new project, the problems is and it is the first time this has happened is that I captured my video and when I bring it to the timeline I can view it and go through it but when I hit Enter to preview it there is only black so I can't see transitions or any thing as such.

If you export a few seconds to a Quicktime, and AVI, and an MPEG, are any of them visible?

What are the properties of your clip?

Cheers,

Sorry i should have entered more info. so here we go:
1. I am working on Win 2000
2. I am using a Mini DV Camera and shot at 30 fps progressive
3. This only happens on this footage and I have tried capturing different ways still the same result
4. There are no Clip Icons either it just shows black
5. If I export in any format it only exports black
6. Audio is fine.
7. The only way I have found around it is that I take the footage into Adobe After Effects and re-render it into a AVI file and then it works fine.
8. Footage is 30fps progressive, 4800hz 16 bit audio

Hope this helps becuase the alternative way is a pain thanks.

Hm. What software does your actual image capturing -- something from the camera or are you using Premiere?

I use the Capture software on Premiere, The odd thing is that you can see it when it captures and when it plays back but it just won't render out any thing but black. i can't fiqure it out, thanks for any help.

What is your project settings. IF your project settings does not match your Capture settings, you will not see anything in the PREVIEW.

That occurred to me too so I checked my settings for both capture and project settings and they are the same.
FPS 29.97
lower field first
and so on....

But I thought because progressive reading comes out as no fields I changed my settings to capture in no fields and upper fioeld first and all sorts of things went through a series of test and then changed my project settings to match each test and bam, same thing. Sorry
Thanks

What are all your project settings. That includes compressor type, etc.

hi, i have the exact same problem, forgive me for doing this but I am desperate: could you look at my thread:
--------------------
Hey everyone

I have a problem, as many other fine peaple here...

the thing is , I am working with premiere 6.5.

When I work with tutorial files (files that came with my premiere cd) everything works fine....the tutorial files are either in quicktime format or in avi format....

soo I desided to capture some of my own files... from a dv cam... and saved them in the original format (that is , I just captured and saved, in whatever the default format was, but I believe it is uncompressed avi) now when I work with them, I can't apply any transitions or anything , it doesnt work, and when I try to look at the preview window in any of the transitions ánd video effects etc. there is only a black window...if I press alt and drag the timeline, you know when your supposed to preview the video effect or transition that you have applied before rendering the timeline area, nothing happens, just a black window..

please help me, I am standing before a deadline .... I have to finish editing the film that I have filmed before next wednesday.

how can I make my own captured movies, to show in the preview window in any of the transitions etc. and so that I can apply some transitions or effects..... because its not only the preview, when I render the work area, it turnes black when it comes to a cross disolve transition for instance.

could be any codecs that I have to download, or something, I have a few installed , every other file that I worked with that I didnt capture workes great, even the trailers that I download from the internet, even those files could be edited without any problem. but not the files I need, that is the files that I have taken with my own DV cam, and then captured exactly like adobe premiere manual tells me to do.

please help me!!

------------------

A million thanks in advance

with regards /defx

Sorry i didn't finish this thread but I fiqured it out, I had downloaded and installed other video codec packets, they interfere with Premiere so go into your program uninstall on windows and take out any and all unneccerry codecs, this worked for me hope it works for you.
