Adobe Indesign CS Printer

Hello, i have a problem with setting my printout to cmyk, it is greyed out and i can't select it the only option it is giving me is grayscale and RGB can you help me fix this problem?

The vast majority of ink jets are RGB - not CMYK (postscript printers starting at about 600 bucks) - and will not print CMYK. You can print RGB or grayscale only.

Depending on the colors you use the difference between CMYK (process) and RGB can be quite large. Most professionals rely on Pantone colors and refer to the Pantome Solid to Process guides - available from pantone at about 60 bucks each - to select their process colors for print - avoiding a lot of output hassles.

If you're on a mac, you can look up the ColorSync profile for your machine - most likely sRGB - and use that in the RBG profile in ID and enabling ColorSync on the printer (the Printer button on the ID print window).

You might get better results by making a press quality PDF and directly accessing the settings for your printer from the Acrobat print window.

jmgalvin means that the vast majority of ink jet printers accept RGB data only. They still print with CMYK inks. The problem is that your printer is not a PostScript printer and InDesign offers no CMYK output settings for non-PostScript printers.

If accurate color proofing is required, take your file to a print service provider. Otherwise, the color output of your printer will be a gamble as the HP print driver and printer will convert RGB to CMYK without the guidance of InDesign.
