I am working on an Adobe Illustrator (V.10) file with a lot of pictures on it. The pictures were taken with a 3 megapixel camera. The picture is about 700 K as a raw picture, after I crop and edit it they are around 1.3 MB then when I copy and paste them into Illustrator they end up being around 15 MB. What am I doing wrong? Is there some kind of compression I am not doing? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

The 700 K image is JPEG. Illustrator probably is placing it and using it as a TIFF or something. I don't think there is much to do. You would not want IL to manage it as a JPEG because each file save would degenerate.

Save the file in photoshop (psd) and then place it. Photoshop has its own internal compression system
