Whats the easy way to have administrator have full control of everyone mailbox. As an administrator, I want to be able to go into any of my users mailbox via OWA.

Do I have to give administrator full mail boxes permission on every single mailbox? Or is there a global setting that will give me full control to everyones mailbox?

I'm using Exchange 2003 SP2 on a a full Windows 2003 domain.

If you are using Default settings,

Go System Manager

Administrative group
First Admin Group.....Servers......Servername
First Storage Group.

Give full permision on

Mailbox Store(ServerName)..right click... properties...security

Why you worry? Life is too short to worry.

You might want to get something in writing from the PTB about accessing other users' mailboxes.

I create a separate account with permissions to all mailboxes, and only use it when I absolutely have to. Since we audit everything, logs show when it's used to access another mailbox (such as for restores with Exmerge). YMMV, but I'd cover my @ss if I was you.

I gave the permission accord to what you all said. I gave administrator full mailbox control under the store. I goto my web browser and type

Its asking me for authentication. I was under the impression after doing this it would just load the OWA mailbox without any authentication.

You will still have to authenticate. Just use your credentials.

I would look into CYA strategies however. I have been at this 10 years now... I don't know anyones password nor do I want to. Plausible deniability. I don't want anyone under the pretense that I have free and easy access to their mail and mailboxes.

This is why this feature is off by default for Exchange2003. In 2000 and 5.5, admins had that access. Man, did people lose their jobs over snooping.

You are better off not knowing, and having them watch you sort through their mail....
