Hi,
We want to set up a cisco phone about 70 fet away outside the building. This phone will be used for users to enter the premise. Will I have to set up a switch there for this one phone? What are my options?

as long as the cable is minimum cat5 rated and the length of the cable run does not exceed 90 meters (around 300 feet) you should be good to go. But that would be the same for a switch as well.
If over that, you'll need fiber or an analog phone.

thank you whykap, we may go the analog route then.

For that situation I feel an IP phone is a waste of money. I would recommend analog anyhow. Especially if you are going to use hot dials. No need to spend a few hundred dollars for someone to pick up a handset and talk into it.
