admin user permissions 1

Hi

I'm wanting to limit some admin users to items such as station name changes.
I understand that user profiles can be used to do this kind of thing, does anyone know where useful documentation can be found that actually does into the detail rather than resembling a sales brochure?

Try change permissions [login ID]

Login permissions for a specified login can be set by the superuser to block any object that can affect the health of the switch. Up to 40 administration or maintenance objects (commands) can be blocked for a specified login. When an object (administrative or maintenance command) is entered in the blocked object list on the Command Permissions Categories Restricted Object List screen, the associated administrative or maintenance actions cannot be performed by the specified login.
Commands for the DEFINITY G3V3 or later are grouped into three categories: common, administration, and maintenance. Each category has a group of subcategories, and each
subcategory has a list of command objects that the commands act on. A superuser can set a user’s permissions to restrict or block access to any command in these categories.

Note: DEFINITY G3V3 and later releases allow for unique logins to be assigned (for example, MARY83, B3V3RLY, etc.). This eliminates the need to use cust, rcust, browser, and bcms. The list login command shows the assigned logins, and
the state of the login (for example, VOID, disabled, etc.).

But what I remember of these screens is that they are just a list A - Z or whatever withsome general labels do you know of documentation that would guide on restricting access as above.

in CM5, there are 2 places to change this:

in the maint web browser, you have certain types of logins, and can assign user profiles.

In the CM SAT session, you can do "change user-profile 20" and can allow and disallow almosst every CM command, there are like 23 pages of permissions to adjust...

BTW, you will need to use a user pofile of 20 or higher, 18 and 19 are fixed and can't be changed.

But can I limit cha sta to certain fields ie. name or can I only limit a user to using or not using cha sta?

No, I don't think you can limit them changing a particular field... take a look, "change user-profile 20", see whats in there, its only 23 pages to look through

Thanks, 23 pages... I was thinking as we'd paid quite a few dollars for this (CM5) Avaya might provide useful documentation on how to use it.
