So i got my echange server up was able to login to OWA, send, recieve, everything great.

I got my first spam mail... yay.
so i decided to install S2 to get the spam filter option.

this is where all hell broke loose.
I downloaded and decompressed the S2 file and nothing happend.

I took a break and asked another admin to see if he could figure it out, i came back and everything is broke all to hell.

aparently he ran a setup in the file and restarted
when it came back up i could nolonger access AD, ESM and got the message "HTTP/1.1 503 Service Unavailable" when trying to connect to OWA.

I restarted and it's now talking to AD and i can get into the ESM and I can get the OWA login box but can't get into to it.

The file he ran was "Update.exe"
located in "E3SP2ENG\setup\i386"
Suite Integration Toolkit Executable

Any idea what he just did and how i can fix it?

also how do i run the update correctly i can't find information other than

"Instructions
Create a folder named SP2 on your local hard disk.
Download the E3SP2ENG.exe file into the SP2 folder.
In My Computer, open the SP2 folder, and then double-click E3SP2ENG.exe.
In the Unzip To Folder dialog box, enter the location of the SP2 folder, and then click the Unzip button.
When the self-extraction process is complete, click OK, and then click Close."

thank you for all your help

update
now i'm getting this lovely gem of an error when i try to access OWA from a different computer that's off the domain.
"No authority could be contacted for authentication. "

Update: i keep getting ewrrors with AD and ESM where it's saying that the servers can't be contacted, sometimes it works fine but other times i get these types of errors.

the AD and ESM problem happens for a short while after i try to log on through OWA.

Update i found two things that won;t start up

both the exchange attendant
and
the exchange information store

they won't start up.

Update.exe is exactly what you're supposed to run in order to install the service pack.

What's in the event logs? You're not giving us ANY information to help you.

Ok event log errors i getting are

The Microsoft Exchange MTA Stacks service depends on the Microsoft Exchange System Attendant service which failed to start because of the following error:
The operation completed successfully.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at

"SMTP could not connect to the DNS server '10.2.1.79'. The protocol used was 'UDP'. It may be down or inaccessible."

"This computer was not able to set up a secure session with a domain controller in domain XXXXXXXX due to the following:
The RPC server is unavailable.
This may lead to authentication problems. Make sure that this computer is connected to the network. If the problem persists, please contact your domain administrator. "

"SMTP could not connect to any DNS server. Either none are configured, or all are down."

"The name "*domain name* :1d" could not be registered on the Interface with IP address x.x.x.x. The machine with the IP address x.x.x.x did not allow the name to be claimed by this machine."

More or less what i keep seeing in the system error logs.

Can you ping/access the DNS server from the Exchange server?

I'm Certifiable, not cert-ified.
It just means my answers are from experience, not a book.

There are no more PDC's! There are DC's with FSMO roles!

the status of the server in the ESM is

exchange server: unknown
|
|
==>Default exchange services: stopped
|
|
|
==> system attendant: stopped
==> information store: stopped

Ok not sure what happened, everything seems to be working now.
I restarted it again and it must be connecting to the DNS correctly now.

Another question though,
I can't seem to find the Intelligent Message Filter Version 2.

It didn't add the tab for it.
