Admin and guest policie status says (not applicable)? 1

Hello,Windows Xp Pro Machine Sp2.

Have a problem with the administrator and guest accounts.
In the Local Security settings,Local Policies,I get the following odd entries:

Accounts: Administrator account status Not Applicable
Accounts: Guest account status Not Applicable

When I right click on any of these, the enable/disable radio buttons are grayed out?. Needless to say,I can not access this PC from others on the local network.

Why is this not Applicable? Any help much appreciated.

This security setting determines whether the local Administrator account is enabled or disabled.

Default: Enabled.

On my standalone machine this is set to "Not Applicable".

Accounts: Guest account status

This security setting determines if the Guest account is enabled or disabled.

Default: Disabled.

On my standalone machine this is set to "Not Applicable".

Enabled and Disabled are both "dimmed" in each setting.

On my small LAN I do not have any access problems with this machine.

What does the MMC say about Local Users and Groups for the two relevant users?

Perhaps you should look elsewhere for any Networking problems? Can you use the Ping Command, or is there any Firewall blocking any access?

Do you have access if you test from "Safe Mode with Networking"?

If these options are greyed out, they are most likely managed by a group policy at a higher level. Is the computer part of an Active Directory Domain?

If so, have your administrator check the group policy and see if the options are managed remotely.

linney is correct - use the sites provided to check for other issues.
