Hi I use Adobe illustrator every once and a while. I tried to search this in help but don't quite know the right combination of words to search.

I'd like to know how I can make a shape adhere to a path

Say I have a long rectangle, and I want it to curve, so I'd like to align it with a semi-circle path.

Any help is apreciated. I'm sure the asnwer is simple

...do you mean warp the rectangle to an arch shape?

...if you do, then you can either:

...choose effect > warp > arc and adjust the bend.

...or...

...drag the rectangle to the brush palette and make an art brush from the options given, click OK and then select the path you want it to be on, make sure you have the stroke color selected in the color palette, then click the art brush you created.

thanks, I found another way which is closer to what I was looking for, but it raises another question.

So I made an arrow shape into a brush. Then I'd make an arrow, then I'd create a semi circle path. Then I attach the arrow to the path as a compound path.

So the problem is, is that this arrow is a stroke, and I can't fill it with a gradient (which I'd like to do)

How do I turn a stroke to an outline?

...object > path > outline stroke...

..or...

...object > expand > stroke or fill or both...
