hello all,

i have a 2620XM router with a E1 wic card
its a dual port, so i have controller E1 0/0 and 0/1
the interfaces are serial0/1:1 and serial0/0:1

now i've added an extra single port wic card on slot 1

sh ver : (as you can see it only detects the 2 already working E1 ports)

---------------------------------------------------------

2 Serial interfaces
2 Channelized E1/PRI ports
32K bytes of NVRAM.
32768K bytes of processor board System flash (Read/Write)

sh diag: (as you can see the system recognizes the card in wic slot 1)

how can activate the extra controller and E1 port on wic 1 ?

thx for any help

In sh int, you will see
controller x/x/x
Configure this with
router>en
router#conf t
router(config)#controller e1/0
Then
channel-group 1 unframed
You will then see a serial interface.

hi,

thank you for reply.

i have already 2 serials working fine for controller E1 0/0
and 0/1

the problem is that i cant see controller, lets say E1 1/0, for the new card added in wic 1 slot.

the sh run for the 2 working serials is :
-----------------------------------------

controller E1 0/0
clock source internal
line-termination 75-ohm
channel-group 1 unframed
description 2Mbps prot4_tni
!
controller E1 0/1
line-termination 75-ohm
channel-group 1 unframed
description 2Mbps prot3_mni

it must exist a controller E1 1/0 for the new card or am i wrong ?

thank you again for any help.

since its a T1E1 card you may first need to specify the global config command "card type e1".. then you will see the controller e1 and then after specifying a channel group you should see the serial interface...

im pretty sure most multiflex trunk cards need the card type command entered ...

as i said before, i already see controller E1 0/0 and E1 0/1
and their relative serial ints are both working.

but something's wrong, it seems this IOS version does not recognize "card type" global command.

What IOS do you have in your router?
Restrictions for Second-Generation 1- and 2-Port T1/E1 Multiflex Trunk Voice/WAN Interface Cards
Cisco IOS Image

To run these features on T1/E1 interfaces, you must install an IP Plus or IP Voice image (minimum) of Cisco IOS Release 12.3(14)T or a later release.

VWIC Support

The multiflex VWIC cards are supported on Cisco 2600XM series, Cisco 2691, Cisco 2800 series, Cisco 3700 series, and Cisco 3800 series routers when installed on the network modules listed in Table 2. The multiflex VWIC cards can also be installed in any VIC slot on the router.

you have to be able to run the card type command because as stated but the name of the card it can do either t1 or e1 and you have to tell it which you want to use.
