Hello,
i'm having some difficulty with setting up a new field in my database. basically, what i would like to do is somehow have my new field add up the amount of different entries that are in another field. These entries come from another connected database. if i should explain more, please let me know.

Thank you

Yes please. How are the db's connected, which version of FM, different entries...in one field or several records ?

TIA

Thank you so much for your response.
I'm using Filemaker Pro 6 and I'm not sure as to how the databases are connected to one another.
The different entries are all in one field. i don't want to calculate the entries themselves, but rather simply count how many entries there are in the field in question

thanks

It's still not very clear to me what you're trying to achieve but if you want to know the number of entries in a field troughout a file, you could use the count function.

Count (yourField)
This will returns the number of valid, non-blank entries.

If you want the value in a related file, you will need the relationship for this....
