Good morning everyone,

I work on an Option 11C, running Sucession 3.0. There are 2 fiber expansion cabinets, and 2 IP expansion cabinets.

I have an existing ISDN span that consists of 2 T-1's. There is a primary D-channel on the first T-1, and a backup D-channel on the other. I am adding a third T-1 to the span which will not have a D-channel.

Here are my questions. First, can I insert the TMDI into one of the IP expansion cabinets with out downing the switch? The loop is programmed in LD 17, but is software disabled. I know that on larger switches, you must turn the hardware switch to disable or the PBX will reload, but the TMDI doesn't have a hardware disable switch.

Second, how do I associate the new T-1 with the existing D-channel. I have asked several local PBX techs, but I have gotten different answers. The best (or at least most common one) is that when I program the TN's as route members the switch will know what D-channel serves that route, but I have had some techs tell me I need to program this in software somewhere.

Any help you all can give me would be appreciated, Thanks, Jon K.

under the pri prompt for the d you'll need to add that card

USR PRI
DCHL 44
OTBF 31
PARM RS422 DTE
DRAT 64KC
CLOK EXT
IFC D100
SIDE USR
CNEG 1
RLS ID 33
RCAP ND2
MBGA NO
OVLR NO
OVLS NO
PRI INTERFACE ID
045 2
017 3
018 4
this d is on the card for loop 24 with 45 as the 2nd pri and 17 as the third, unless a new software load has changed it, i have always had to move sets off or a card slot in cab 1 to add a tmdi, a year or so back i added a couple of pri's to a option 11 and it only worked in cab 1.. i used the move command after hours and moved the cable. In my case i had to vacate slot 4 ond 5 for the new ckts. The pri's would not work in either ip remotes or cad 2 and 3 local

Thanks John,

I have another question. Do I need to disable the D-channel to make this change? I am betting that I do. If so, will the backup D kick in automatically, or will I need to enable or activate it? I would like to get this done as soon as possible, but this is a mission critical route.

Thanks again for your help, Jon K.

good news and bad, you must dis dsl x in load 96.. hint type that command twice, it works better to take it out of auto restore.. but calls in progress will stay up.. even without a backup, the d is just used for setup and teardown. in your case dis the primary d will force your back up to become active and uses will be none the wiser. another problem you'll see is the tmdi has to go down and come back up with a fdl to upload the new pri info to the card.. and that's a hard down.. then enll (loop) in 60 and the d will stand back up..sounds like a overtime change. i would attempt during normal traffic. your cutting that route in half helps, you'll lose 23 b channels at a time
