I have added a second processor to an RS6000 7025 F40 server that is running AIX 4.3
The second processor shows as defined but is not available. How do I configure the processor so that it is available and stays available across further reboots.

# lsdev -Cc processor
>> proc0 Defined 00-00 Processor
>> proc1 Available 00-01 Processor

Thanks,
Mark.

On the SMS menu there is an option for processors where you can enable or disable them. I am guessing this is what you need to do. When the node is booting and whether it is graphical or ASCII you will need to press F1/1 or F5/5 (I don't recall which - and it will either be a number or the Fnumber key) to get the menu.

I did not have the processor option in SMS.
I have upgraded the system firmware to the latest level and it has resolved the problem - rebooted and both processors are now available.

Thanks for your time,
Mark.

Just a thought.
Make sure your kernel is /usr/lib/boot/unix_mp link from /unix

or load that fileset if it is not installed lslpp -l | grep bos.mp ....If you were running a uniprocessor kernel you may want to change and run the multiprocessor kernel.

Oh well...glad it is working for you.
