Hi,

I have another issue with adding a printer to a computer that's not yet connected to the server. This is what happens.

For example, I have 2 computers, one is called comp1 and the other called comp2. The comp1 is connected to the server SBS but comp2 is not yet. A printer is connected directly to comp1 and made shared and listed in the directory. And for testing sake, i went to comp2 and tried to add a printer via printer and faxes wizard. During the wizard, i could see the comp1 from the directory but nothing happen when double-clicking on it (trying to expand it). My understanding is that we can access a resource on any domain-connected computer/server if we supply credentials and authenticate to it. It didn't even ask for any credentials.

Any ideas?

Thank you in advance

Hi Markdmac,

Thank you for your support.

The reason i'm reluctant to run the wizard to connect the computer to the domain is simply i don't want to stuff up the computer. It's not mine but one of my colleagues.

It's got a lot of software programs and cable modem utility installed and run on it. I don't want after connecting it to the domain, none of them would work. This is the last thing i want it to happen (just nervous about this).

So i was thinking if i can add the networked printer without having to connect it to the domain. Is it possible to do this?

Thank you very much in advance

Joining to the domain will not alter the local profile, so if there were problems the user would simply need to choose the local machine name from the drop down and log on locally rather than log into the domain.

The programs should not require reinstallation, unless when originally installed they were not configred for "all users" and then you may either need to set the security or need to reinstall for them to work in the domain profile.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Regards,

Mark
