I have an 81C that needs to have digital licenses added. If someone could provide me with the procedure to load the new licenses it would be greatly appreciated. Normally, how long does the process takes? Does it interfere with the operation of the PBX? Should it be done out of hours? Everyone has been great in the past with my questions.

Thanks,

Put the kcd file supplied on a floppy disk, put it in the active processor, go to ld 143, type kdif rec f0 check the licenses and packages are correct and you not dropping anything off. if ok and only if ok, type knew f0 to upload the new kcd file, watch the messaging and see if a message such as "sysload not required", if it requires a sysload it will tell you. DO IT OUT OF HOURS JUST IN CASE !!!!

Normally you would receive a keycode.kcd file from Nortel, along with a sheet containing details of your system parameters / packages etc. It's a good idea to check against your current keycodes for any other changes such as a change in packages etc. A change in packages usually means that a reboot is required to activate the new licences.

You have not stated the software version or System type such as a CP3/CP4, CPP2 CPP4 etc. The reason is that the new keycode.kcd file will either need to be put onto a floppy disc or onto a compact flash card.

It might be very wise at this stage to do a couple of system backups first!.

Log into the system and go to LD 143.

From there key in i.e. KDIF k1 k1 to compare the differences between the old & new keycodes.

Assuming that all is well, thn use the command

KNEW F0 to load in the keycode from floppy drive 0.
If your software is V25.4x onwards, then so long as it's just a ISM increase on say digital phones, then a sysload WON'T be needed.

Best of luck.

All the best

Not that you will have issues, I have alway performed a backup and pulled the floppies prior to any sort of keycode upgrade. They are pretty easy, some keycode changes don't require an INI, some do. The maint terminal will let you know when you are done and if you need to INI.

Normally, how long does the process takes?

5 minutes

Does it interfere with the operation of the PBX?

no i have done dozens and never had one cause even and ini.

Should it be done out of hours?

if your switch is not having other problems, streaming codes, ram shortage etc.. i did my last one here at the hosp during lunch..

if in doubt do it after hours.. as posted the knew command works great..
