Hi. I have Win2000 installed on my laptop. I have Partition Magic 8.0 installed. I have created a new Linux partition after the Win2000 partition. I need to install the Red Hat 8.0 in the new partition. My partitions are as follows:
1. Primary Win2000 partition
2. Linux swap partition
3. Linux partition
4. Boot Magic partition

What I need to do is install the Red Hat version on the Linux partition. I tried to install from the CD, but when I was presented with the options for formatting and creating partitions, I did not know what to select. Red Hat help is not very specific in this area. Any ideas/help?

Thanks in advance....

Mike

You need to select Linux partition, as you presented it above. The type should already be set by PM. Choose to format it and type ext3. Choose swap partition... and you are ready to continue.

Dear,
ok now u have two partiotions for linux.
Boot with the help of Red Hat Cd.
It will givce u two options:
1) manually partiotion
2) automatic partiotion

select the manual partition or partition using diskdruid
then
1)select the linux swap partion and delete it
2)select the linux native partition and delete it.

this is because Red Hat won't proceed forward.
3)Now once again add a partition using the proper tab and add "linux swap " partition
4) Now add the linux native partition and mount it on "/" drive.Select the filesystem as "ext2 or ext3"

and proceed .Other things are automaticaaly done.

remember not to delete the windows partition

i hope this will be of help.
If u have any queries then feel free to ask

regds,
Pankaj
