Hi,

I need to add some custom fields to the tables Opmgr and Opmgrfld. Can I do this in Goldmine? If I add these directly using SQL enterprise manager how do I get them to show up on Goldmine forms?

thx

You cannot add fields to this table!

There are is the facility to create 5 UDF's in the oppotunity manager the last icon in teh toolbar is configure the Opp. Manager.

Thanks for your reply. When you say I 'cannot' add fields to this table what do you mean? Do you mean that Goldmine will not recognize the fields I add using SQl Enterprise manager, or will this cause some sort of error?

The only table you should play with in GoldMine at this stage is Contact2. GoldMine will not recognise any fields added to another table and you might find the application will become unstable.

This may change in coming versions.

Thanks again,

One more question. How do I connect Goldmine to a different SQL database (this is a Goldmine database with all the correct tables)? Is there a menu item in Goldmine that allows me to do this?

I have the evaluation version of Goldmine installed on my system. On a SQL server I have Goldmine database. I want to look at that data in the evaluation version instead of the data that comes with the evaluation. It doesn't do me much good to evaluate it if I cannot see how my real data will appear etc. So I need to know how to change from the database that comes with the eval to my SQL database.

Thanks

What is you current version of GoldMine? Again if you try and open an older GoldMine database with a newer version, you may find some inconsistancies and may even corrupt your existing GoldMine database. This is not advisable on a live system.

What additional features are you looking for anyway as the current demo is only GM65 and the latest version is GM67.

GM& is in beta however cannot tell you anything about it other then there are major changes to the backend in GM7.

The version of my database is 6.5 as is the eval. Do you know how I can view my data in the eval?

Also, I went into the opportunity manager and did not see the option to add udfs? Can you tell me how/where I can do this?

Thanks for the help!

No problem. I'll have to check if we are a maintenance customer. How about my question on connecting to my data?

Thanks again

Not sure you can do this in the evaluation as it is usually on GoldMine not GoldMine Corporate Edition. You can give it a go by going to File>>Open DataBase in your exisiting GoldMine and choose your database and properties. In the eval add a new database and copy over the properties from your existing GoldMine. You may also need to add an entry to the BDE.

I am not quite sure what you are trying to achieve by using the eval if you already have GM65?

Hi,

What I'm really trying to do is determine if Goldmine is the right solution for my business needs. I am currently using it as a contact manager, but I also have some tech support data that I would like to enter into Goldmine. The data is structured such that for every contact there will be several tech support projects and for every project there will be several records with notes, dates etc. How can I put this in Goldmine and what tables would it go into?

Thanks for all of your help!

We use the Project Manager in GoldMine to roll out our CRM and Communications Systems projects. The Project Manager allows you to establish a template which you can apply to a new project each time which includes a series of pre-determined tasks which need to be completed for that project type. It also allows you to link contacts to that projsct so as you complete actions, calls, appointments, emails etc you can link those activities to the project.

We also track billable and non-billable time using GoldMine. We use Activity and Result codes to do this and we have a report that tells us each week what needs to be invoices and if we are actually making money on projects.

We haven't added tables/fields to the system to do this, the funcionality it already there.

in addition to those, keep in mind that it's possible to design an open-ended asp or activex front-end that can live int he GM+View window and relate your data. I did this for a regional ISP who needed to track support calls and had a simple asp-based system in place already. It was quick work to tie the two together. :)

Eventually, though, whatever product/method you choose to store your support data, you're going to probably want to discuss it with a GoldMine pro to get the most ideal solution..

Hi Doug

I downloaded the demo of TimeLine and it kept crashing tried to speak to Francis about it and got no reply whatsoever. Had a client that wanted three timers in one so we have written it.

I think the opportunity manager may work for what I'm tracking. How can I change the name of the tab to something other than 'Oppty'? I also need to change the names of the labels on this page and the names of the columns. I also need to delete some of the tabs on the oppportunity page. Is this possible?

Nope. You can add 5 custom fields to the main opportunity properties and change labels on most of the main fields (shown when you are in the opportunity mgr and rt-click properties on one...

Is it possible to create a custom form in Goldmine that uses some of the same fields as opportunity manager? I don't need all those fields and tabs
