I would like to add an audio file to a ppt presentation and be able to let it play for the duration of the show. The problem I am having is that whenever I attach the audio file it starts to play on the firts slide but the slide show now does not go to the next slide automatically.

I'm using MS Powerpoint2000 and to get an Audio File to play throughout the presentation you need to ...

Insert>Movies and Sounds> Sounds from File then insert the selected file

You will be asked whether you want this sound file to autostart. Click YES if you want to Autostart or NO if you want to click on the sound file icon to start it independently
Right Click on the Audio File Icon choose Custom Animation
On the Multimedia Tab select Continue Slide Show
then Stop playing after 99 slides.

This should allow your Sound file to play for the duration of the slideshow

Hi,
Right-click the object and select "custom animation". Go to "multimedia" tab and there select "continue show" option and number of slides to play sound (unfortunately, there is no whole presentation option).
