Hi all,

I currently have one Exchange 2007 server running on Win 2003 Std and have another server that I want to place in a datastore to replicate the mailboxes as a failover. My main question is - do I have to move to Enterprise to achieve this, and would it be better to go to 2008?

Windows Server 2008 would be my choice, but SCR targets have to be running the same OS as the SCR source. For replication, you'll need an SCR target machine in the DR site.

Of course, SCR doesn't get you automatic activation, like CCR does. But since you're already deployed, you can't implement CCR without redoing things.

Can SCR be run with the Standard version? The problem is that it is a small office and has the unfortunate problem of also being the AD and DNS server too (not ideal - I know!)

No - forget that last post - I know I can't cluster without Enterprise - I was sadly hoping for a work-around that did not involve spending money on licenses!

In all actuality, CCR is a better solution than SCR. CCR is automatic failover, and can handle things like hardware failure, etc. High Availability (HA).

SCR is more for Distaster Recovery (DR).

There is generally more of a need for HA than DR.
