Hello.

I need to add a Brocade 3800 16port switch to an existing Brocade Silkworm 12000. The environment is Production, so it has to be concurrent...

Here is what i got :

- 3800 is already configured with IP and different ID
- 3800 is already connected to LAN
- Should i run 2 ISL (port 0 and 1) to the 12000, connecting each on separate blades?
- Turn on 3800 and it should 'join' the existing fabric?

Thanks for any input and comments.

Out.

You should use different ASIC's when doing ISL's. This will allow for at least one connection in the case of a quad failing.

you might want to set the 3800's domain to something other than what already exists in your fabric before you hook it up.

connect the switches before adding devices to the 3800.

make sure the OS levels are kosher.

Thank you guys.

I did make sure the ID was different. I had also made sure to scrap the existing configurations including the aliases, zones etc...I had the 3800 off when i ISLed it. Turned it on and in about 5 mins and went through its selfcheck and joined the existing Fabric.

No problems whatsoever.
