I Just setup an nt server.
I am needing to setup a mdm to run off of this server for other purposes.
I have added the mdm but when i try to dial with it, it will not get the dial tone. it has dialed out once before in hyperterminal but after i add a isp software such as Juno then i can't add mdm's any more cause the mdm control in the control panel will not come up at all.
i have tried uninstalling this program and then going into the registry and removing the rest of it.
i have also tried uninstalling ras but i can't reinstall it cause i can't add any mdm's.
What can i do?
help!!!

If you were getting a "no dial tone" message, the modem was likely set up correctly. That message is generated by the modem and then displayed by the OS (at least in most cases). It has been a long time since i used JUNO, but it used to have its own modem drivers and access the com port directly. Is your modem PCI? ISA? Can it's hardware settings be changed with jumpers? If so, is there another com port (like one on the motherboard) using the same resources? It could be simply a bad modem or a bad phone line. If you have a normal analog phone, hook it to the phone line and make sure you have a dial tone. Then double check your connection to the modem. . . it should be in line or wall but it is VERY easy to slip and get it in the other slot. If you give me the model of modem I might be able to help more. [sig][/sig]

I have a gateway telepath mdm pt# 6000728
the mdm is an isa.
and it is not a bad mdm nor phone line
i have 98 on the system as well and i can use it just fine in there.
i just downloaded the new drivers for nt and it still didnt install right.
juno doesnt recognize the mdm.
hyperterminal will not get a dial tone.
and then i use netzero and it say that the com it is connected to is either in use or the hardware is not functioning.
i will check to see if there are jumpers on this thing
but i might have to just get another mdm for nt
cause gateway is not working

most of the gateway telepath modems are made by us robotics (aka 3com). If it is in PNP mode you will have to have your bios set for non-pnp OS. It's usually just a straight yes/no in the bios. Follow this procedure. . .

in win98:
remove all com ports

remove the modem device driver

reboot and enter bios

make sure you only have a max of ONE com port enabled in bios (3f8,irq4)

set NO to PNP OS

boot back into win98

from control panel: double click modem. It will tell you there is new hardware, let it detect the hardware, then finish the driver install.

from the device manager: check the "new" port (probably com2, but it could be other) then check its resources (probably 2f8,irq3) write them down.

reboot to Win NT

from Win NT control panel: double click ports. Select or add the correct port (com 1,2,3,4) then click advanced. Manually set the address and IRQ to the ones you wrote down from win98. then use the modems applet to add the winnt drivers for the modem.

All done, it should now work!
