Adding a DC - DC Promo error

Hi,

I get the following error. We are running Win2003 - DC. We've installed a 2nd DC - and want to Promote it - just to replicate AD. As a backup. this is the error I get :

Operation failed because :

Active Directory could not replicate the directory partition CN=Schema,CN=Configuration,DC=apl,DC=co,DC=za from the remote domain controller APLWIN2003.

"The filename, directory name, or syntax is incorrect"

Anyone who can assist - I've eve re-installed the OS on the second server.

How did you configure the first server is it also a dns server ? Point your new server to that server for dns resolution and try again.

Is the new server in the same location als the old server or are you promoting it over a vpn.

Yes, the first server is the DNS Svr, and the new svr is pointed to it... Yes, same location...In the same room ?
