adding a column 1

Hi,

I have fe tables in postgres which is running on redhat linux 8.0, i need to add a coulmn with the name phone and it should be data type of integer. How to add a column to an existing table without affecting the table and its data. can anybody help me plz.

alter table table_name add column phone integer;

where table_name is the name of the table.

consider not using integer for phone numbers, because very often they are written with spaces, dashes, braces etc ....
