O.k., first some DATA. Here is the current config for the legend at on of my customers sights:

slot 00: processor cke4
slot 01: 408 mlx gs/ls
slot 02 408 mlx gs/ls
slot 03 408 mlx gs/ls
slot 04 408 mlx gs/ls
slot 05 016 mlx
slot 06 408 mlx gs/ls
slot 07 016 mlx
slot 08 016 trr
slot 09 408 mlx gs/ls
slot 10 408 mlx gs/ls
slot 11 408 mlx gs/ls
slot 12 408 mlx gs/ls
slot 13 408 mlx gs/ls
slot 14 016 mlx gs/ls
slot 15 016 trr
slot 16 016 mlx gs/ls
slot 17 100 DS1

In order to add 24 more mlx phones we are in the process of ordering a PRI. The Merlin configuater said to add the 100 DCD card in the first slot. Then we are going to remove the three 408 mlx cards in slot 2,3,and4 and replace them with 016 mlx cards. I know what is going to happen to my dial plan. My question is what happens to the translations on slot/port 01/01 through 01/08 when I do a board renumber? Will they be placed onto 02/01 or will 02/01 remain the same as it was? Anybody ever tried this. Thanks in advance.

You will be "SCRAMBLING" most of your STATION Translations.

I know this from VERY RECENT EXPERIENCE.

Your new extensions will take on the translations of the old ones that they are going to "OVERLAP" into.

There is no easy way to fix this, and no easy way to prevent this.

If it is a late enough release of Legend, you can build a "SURROGATE" switch, load it with the OLD translations and then do a PRINT ALL so you know how the extensions are supposed to look like.

(PRINT ALL from some earlier releases DIDN'T PRINT ALL, so you were stuck with having 2 switches side by side to figure out what was needed)

Then, still in surrogate mode, make the changes you want and then another PRINT ALL will show you the differences.

It is a VERY TEDIOUS and TIME CONSUMING JOB. In the last 2 months, I have done 2 of these. One took over 10 hours, the other over 12.

Considering the size of your switch, it will take a LONNNNG TIME!

You most assurdedly DO NOT WANT TO DO THE CHANGE AND THEN TRY TO BRING UP THE SYSTEM, THAT WOULD BE VERY VERY BAD !

Good Luck

MM

01 thur 08 will remain the same stations but will be in slot 2 all your stations will move , up lines 1 to 23 will be in your PRI

Unless you have an R7V11 or higher dont put the ds1 as the first trunks in the system, There was a problem with trunk 801 being a PRI that was fixed in the latest releases

There is no easy or painless way to do this, but I think I have a better idea than messing with the first few slots:

OLD NEW (REPLACING SLOT #)
slot 01: 408 mlx gs/ls
slot 02 408 mlx gs/ls
slot 03 408 mlx gs/ls
slot 04 408 mlx gs/ls
slot 05 016 mlx

slot 06 408 mlx gs/ls 100-D
slot 07 016 mlx
slot 08 016 trr
slot 09 408 mlx gs/ls 016 MLX 6 & 9
slot 10 408 mlx gs/ls 016 MLX 10 & 11
slot 11 408 mlx gs/ls 016 MLX 12 & 13

slot 12 408 mlx gs/ls 016 MLX 14
slot 13 408 mlx gs/ls 016 TTR 15
slot 14 016 mlx gs/ls 016 MLX 16
slot 15 016 trr 100-D 17
slot 16 016 mlx gs/ls EMPTY
slot 17 100 DS1 EMPTY

Again, NOT EASY. Remember everything in slots 6 or higher that is even linked to slots 1-5 will affect slots 1-5 as well.

The EXTENSION Programming will change, the Line programming will change, but by doing it this way, you change the fewest physical ports.

If this was my job, I'd do a print all and build a surrogate switch FROM SCRATCH. And, by all means, I would do it ahead of time.

Anyone else have any ideas?

I was looking for a different answer but somehow I knew that was where I was heading. Thank you for your help all. Merlinman, you are the man, I think you had the best idea. At least I wouldn't have to reprogram a quater of the switch.

Well, I hate to say this, but again, if the First few modules have any "LINKAGE" to the last few, yes you will.

I'd be glad to do this for you, but I don't think you would like my price. (WHICH INCLUDES A SPECIAL FEE FOR Mrs. MM YELLING AT ME FOR WORKING ALL WEEKEND...like the last 2 I did......)
