ran spybot again; BDE Projector; Hit Box; Avenue A. Inc; these are the spybots i had removed earlier and are back again. no sound, now no printer.what next?!
in control panel i have a new icon P2P Networking, how do i remove this with an empty add/remove list? its geeting deeper and deeper, all of this is a direct result of KAZAA again you have screwed me you sob!
I'm not familiar with compaq, maybe someone else could offer some suggestions. Win 98 is probably in a folder if you browse that CD, but sounds like things have gone to pot.
Did you try the AVG anti-virus scan? That's the only thing I can think of short of re-installing everything.
ANFPS26; re-read this thread and took your advice on running another virus scan. Ran RAV online virus scan and guess what; 1- world famoue porn dialer virus; 2-trojan droppers; 1- backdoor spybot. NAV missed them, spybot search and destroy missed one. Now I am in the process of trying to get rid of them. NAV i thought was the best maybe I didnt do a thorough scan or the updates didnt take. Hell I probably dont have NAV configured right. Come to think of it I did find autoprotect off on several occasions, I guess now days you need two virus scans. Thanks for your prompt replys and PEARL says wear the star with pride.
Thanks. Glad I could help. Some viruses (viri?) disable your anti-virus program. You probably should un-install NAV and clean the bad programs and either re-install NAV or just use the free on-line scans from now own. Glad you are
improving.
I had this problem!!!!
For three days I went around and around non-stop. My situation was a little diffrent in the way that I lost all the devices in my device manager. I also lost any kind of telephony device. I scanned my drive 3 times with an updated Norton 2003 and it didn't catch anything. I had a Trojen virus in my explorer.exe from kazaa it had gone into my msconfig and disabled my drivers and stuff. What I did was boot into safe mode by pressing f5 at startup. Then went back into msconfig and enabled them. I have xp it would be a little diffrent for you because you have 98. I wish I had seen your post sooner I know the aggrivation I went through when it was happening to me. I have to say that I was very disappointed in Norton I thought Norton caught everything. I am faithful about keeping it updated and scanned. I would highly suggest killowhat get a firewall like Blackice if she is using Kazaa. I like Blackice because it's easy to configure and it does a great job stopping hackers. I got this trojen because I disabled the firewall to install another program, I have and that was just long enough for some toad to hack into my system!
Cindy
slowly but surely. got video, and sound back now the dreaded hp psc2100 has to be uninstalled and reinstalled again. still have nothing in add/remove, yet. have had spybot for years and tried adaware again they are like virus scanners they all hit and miss. thanks.
i cant beleive anybody missed this; just reinstall the operating system over and everything should be fine afterwards:
sfc.exe program sucks; if it asks for xxsetup.dll or something like that, doesn't mean anything ebcause when you upgade your pc you have files which are even newer then that system file
jrIStech , you don't know how to use SFC. You set up options
to check what you want. Turn off the changed and altered file options and check just the corrupted files. Plus compaq doesn't provide a win98 OS CD to re-install.
EXACTLY. I only see two ways to get the programs back to add/remove, quick restore or try to uninstall them and reinstall, which windows will not let you do if they are not there. website removal tools worked on NAV 2002. Really a lot of what was there had been there for years. I do have a few programs that I will find some way to safely remove them. ANY SUGGESTIONS GREATLY APPRECIATED.
I found these on a Google search, not a lot of info. One person said they just installed one program and all the others magically re-appeared. You might try that.
