In Illustrator, on a rectangle, it was easy to add a point to the top line, move the point horizontally to the center of the line, then move the point upwards, creating an isometric pentagon. (I would use this for a building facade with a gable.) Is this procedure possible in CorelDraw?

Yup. Use rectangle tool, then go to node tool, then select rectangle, convert to curves, add a point with the node tool, pick it up and drag it. easy.

Convert to curves is the key bit. Draw approaches a rectangle differently to Adobe, so you have to 'escape' the object and deal with it as a set of lines, 'convert to curves' does that for you. - "Oops! I've joined a club that'll have me as a member?" -
