The general answer is no, you are not right.
You can have just one E2K site per Forest in AD.
If your E2K is in native mode (we are not talking about windows native mode) you can not add any more E5.5 servers in the E2K site (in case you had E5.5 servers in the past in the E2K site you've had to delete them from E2K site and uninstal SRS service in order to switch to E2K native mode).
So, no more SRS service, no way to talk to E5.5 servers in the same site.
But you can have E5.5 servers in a different Exchange organization in the same W2K domain. Actually that is the case with many companies that acquire other companies with existing Exchange 5.5 org. The acquired company upgrades its NT 4.0 domain and joins the existing forest but still it has its own E5.5 org.
