Last night I got an alert that our AD-64 was not responding. I came in to check on it, and the hard drive was toast. I grabbed another machine and got everything setup from the recovery disks/install files and then restored the AD-64 from a recent backup. It all seemed fine, until I tried testing a few things.

1) Internally, if you call another extension, you can leave a voicemail but if you call from an outside line, the voicemail doesn't prompt you to leave a voicemail and instead asks for your security code
2) It seems to take an extra ring or two before the voicemail picks up. Not a big deal, but it's definitely different than before
3) The MWI lights are all wrong on all the phones

1 is the big one I'm struggling with. I've been working on this for the last 5 hours (it's now 4:30 AM) and I'm gonna call it a night, but I'd like to hopefully get this fixed by the end of day Friday or over the weekend. Any help you guys can provide would be greatly appreciated!

Oh and I should mention we use an NEC 2000IPS system for our PBX!

Ok so I am not that full on, on the AD64 but it seems the AD64 is seeing the call as coming from the extension not for the extension but I am not sure why but seeing as the AD64 is on new hardware, I wouldn't suspect anything to do with the PABX!

As for the message wait lights there will be lights set by the old AD64 and possibly even some set by the one loaded from backup. It should refresh at some time (probably in the early hours of the morning but if not the slow and laborious way is to set and clear a message for each extension that has problems.

Sorry I can't help further!

There should be a MWI refresh option in the system settings. I believe it even has an option to do it every day at a preset time.
I have seen item 1 before, but I cannot remember what fixed it. It may have something to do in the system set up integration line. Set all unused options to =0 to turn them off. If you go to that area and select the help option it will define them.
I know that the ISM option should be set to 0. There is another one that should also be set to 0 but I cannot remember it. As for the rings to answer, that is set in the individual port options.

Thanks guys! I was able to resolve issue one using your tip belevedere. I went into the Switch Settings and changed the "Enable Idenfitied Subscriber Messaging (ISM)" setting and unchecked that box. Now calls from outside lines go straight to voicemail and it still works internally.

Unfortunately the MWI lights and the length of time it takes to dial the voicemail are still not resolved. I have a feeling the problem with the WMI is related to the "Indicator Codes" that are in the settings. To turn "On" the code is "X" and to turn off the code is "X". When I hit "Reset Now" it does not do anything to any of the phones. Is there a command I can run against my PBX (NEC 2000IPS) to find out which MWI code I need to use for which function?

Thanks again!

Are you using MCI integration? If so, the codes are buried in the packets.
Otherwise, look in your numbering plan for a code set to A040 = set, A041 cancel.

I don't believe we're using MCI Integration (we're connected via LAN to the voicemail server)... though I'm not entirely sure that's what you're asking (unfortunately I'm an IT guy who just happens to maintain our phone system from time to time!).

I looked up the numbering plan and it looks like A9 is A040 and B9 is A041? I tried entering *9 and #9 into the "on" "off" section of the MWI lamps and then reset the WMI on my phone, but it didn't seem to work. (Again, I'm unfortunately an IT guy first so I might be missing something totally obvious!).

Thanks for your help so far!

Try dialing #9 + the extension with the MW light on from a phone. If that works then use the help screen in the VM for the proper protocol. It may be something like #9@, or #9XXX.

Thanks for your help belevedere. I end up spending the last 3 hours trying variations of *9@, *9X, *9XXX ,etc... and other combinations and nothing worked. I was able to view the data on the old hard drive (it looks like just the boot sector was toast) and saw that the settings on the old hard drive were the same as the ones that weren't working on mine ("X" for MWI on and "X" for MWI "off"). I ended up doing some more research and compared the registry settings line by line for all the voicemail/dialogic registry entries and discovered that the only difference amongst nearly everything was a particular driver ID on the dialogic card. I changed the setting for the dialogic card to match the one from the old hard drive, rebooted the server, and sure enough, once I put "X" as the MWI indicator, it worked. And my voicemail picks up immediately. I was also able to put the "ISM" setting back to enabled and external callers are still able to leave voice messages.

So after all that, it appears to have been a driver difference from the old dialogic card. :(
